Beginners Guide to your Audio Interface

Beginners guide to your audio interface

If you are new to recording, and specifically recording on your computer, buying and learning your setup can sometimes feel like an overwhelming task. What is an audio interface?  Why do I need one?  Can't I just record straight into my computer??  What are these “Eye/Ohh's” everyone keeps talking about?

In most cases, you will want a dedicated audio interface to record through and plug into.  It will have multiple “Ins and Outs” (I/O) to plug your instruments into and route speakers from.  Your default computer soundcard can play back music, sounds and effects well, but you will not get optimal performance when recording through them.  Often times we find people who complain of drop outs, latency, pops/clicks and all around poor performance, are using their computers internal sound card for their recording and playback.  A dedicated audio interface is built for recording and will offer you the best performance.

There are many types and brands of audio interfaces.  This short video should catch you up to speed on the basics of any audio interface you are looking to purchase.
